Genre: Romance, Second Chance Romance
POV: Dual, First PersonIt all started with the invitation. To my ex-fiance’s newwedding.
I should have ignored it.Thrown it away. Set it afire. But I didn’t.I replied.
With a plus one.
And then my assistant accidentally mailed it.
Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye.
When he showed up out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding. I should have never let him kiss me.
But I didn’t.
And now we’re left wondering if the pieces of the life we once shared still fit together somehow. First loves are hard to forget. The question is, do we want to forget? Or do we risk the chance and see what happens next?
Second Chance Romance. Saylor and Haynes were childhood lovers.
Haynes is now a famous A-lister Hollywood actor. Saylor is businessowner/baker of Sweet Cheeks.
Saylor Rodgers broke off her upcoming wedding with her six-year old relationship, Mitch Layton. Six months later, she got a wedding invitation from said ex-boyfriend’s wedding with the same wedding invitation style, location, and the killer? the bride-to-be was a look-a-like of Saylor. Interesting. Knowing Mitch moved on easily and replaced her so quickly hurt her even though she’s the one who walked away. for good reason. So, she got an invitation and RSPV’d without intention of going, but was accidentally sent by her assistant. Her brother suggested to show up in the wedding with someone better and more influential than Mitch. Saylor’s thought it was a the ridiculous idea but she’s entertaining it, however, the problem was she doesn’t have that person. Are you sure Saylor??
Enter Haynes Whitley. The Mega-Star. The Ex. The Runaway. The Heartbreaker. Saylor’s brother’s best friend. He hasn’t seen Saylor in ten years since he abruptly left without a word. To Saylor:
He became my first crush.
Then later my first love.
And later again my first heartbreak.
Hayne’s back to escort Saylor to the wedding as a favor to her brother. He’s return disrupted Saylor’s world and this favor brings past emotions and feelings to Haynes. Obviously, there’s still something between them. Their story hasn’t ended..
She looks back at me and gives me a full-fledged smile—heavy topic overshadowed by nostalgia—and fxck if it doesn’t make me think thoughts about that wild child of a girl who owned my heart.
One long weekend on an island and let the rekindling begins. The pent-up passion. Jeez! The chemistry. Hot! And this was where Haynes decided to bring back his old Saylor, the girl she knew and fell in love with.
The first kiss after a decade:
It’s just me.
And the singular sensation of rightness he is making me feel. A sensation I don’t think I had ever realized was missing since he’d left, but now knowing I’ll never be able to live without.
Hayne’s reaction to that kiss:
Now I know why I’ve always compared every woman I’ve ever kissed to you.
Saylor realized why she couldn’t wed Mitch. It’s because of Haynes. Always Haynes.
He left his fingerprint on me, marking me with invisible ink.
Oh I loved the scene where Haynes has to practice a line and Saylor offered to help. She asked what’s the movie about and Haynes answered:
“It’s a romantic suspense project. This scene… is a about the main characters. They’ve fought their attraction for what feels like a lifetime.”
“Why would you fight it?”…
“Good question.” His gaze never wavered. “The way I see it, sometimes things happen in life and love’s put on hold. But if someone’s soulmate, nothing is going to stop you from being together in the end.”
That sounds familiar, eh? hitting too close to home.
I loved their banter and the hashtag thing on Twitter. The way Haynes woe Saylor back because there’s no way he’s losing her for the second time, or ever again. I’m in love with Haynes. He’s totally adorable and determined. And the Grudge Cupcake, I adored that idea and the scene where she showed the paparazzi how awesome she was along with her grudge cupcakes with the side of advertising her business. HA! Smart woman.
I’m not going to talk about Jenna, the ex-girlfriend. Ugh.
I SUPER LOVED THE FREAKING EPILOGUE! I wish I was there. Seriously, I can totally picture the scene. Sigh. Haynes, Haynes, Haynes!
Swoony romance, my kind of read.
