Date Pub: Dec. 1st, 2016
Genre: Romance, Contemporary
POV: Single, Third PersonDani’s survived a lot of sh*t storms.
Her mother died. Her two sisters loathed her. One aunt hated her. The other was strangely distant, but the worst storm—being dumped by her childhood best friend/high school boyfriend/first love for her younger sister.
There went the one person who was hers and with that, the main reason she stuck around. So, she left for ten years. But now she’s back, and nothing’s the same.
With help from Jonah Bannon, a reformed—kind of—bad boy she remembers from high school, Dani uncovers family secrets that have spanned generations. And along with those, she’s about to face the biggest sh*t storm of her life.
Only this time, she may not survive.
Let me talk about the secondary characters Jake Cairns and Julia O’Hara.
Jake’s a freaking O’Hara Sisters groupie. Jeez, he literally dated all three sisters. Just no. He added fuel to the brewing fire between the sisters. Nope. Nah. Nyet. He’s worst and thank goodness he isn’t the main hero. Flawed or not, he suck. I don’t care if he wears his heart on his sleeves but dude you’re one of the worst second characters I’ve ever read. Youre on top of the list.
“Do I still love you? Yes. I still love Erica, too. I’m not in love with either of you, but you know that. Julia needs me, and I need her in ways that I never needed Erica or you.”
He’s on my “Stupid Heroes In My Read” list. Dating all three was kind of icky. /shivers/.
Julia the other sister and now engaged to Jake was so insecure, bitter, and controlling. I see her as anal retentive although she wasn’t described as that, but to me she was. BLAME YOUR INSECURITY TO JAKE BECAUSE IF HE DIDN’T DATE THE OTHER TWO OF YOUR SISTERS YOU WOULDN’T COMPARE HOW HE WAS WITH THE OTHER TWO! ’nuff said.
Now, Dani O’Hara, our devoid of emotion heroine. She’s like a freaking wall. She’s a runner. She runs when she starts to feel something or when she feels someone cares. She ran when Jake dumped her and she ran when Mitch proposed to her. So, she came back to her hometown after a decade of being gone. Thank goodness for Jonah, she finally decided to stop running and opened up. But I really felt bad about how Jake dumped her for her younger now deceased sister, Erica. The O’Hara’s was a dysfunctional family.
Jonah Bannon was an okay hero. He’s willing to wait for Dani to get her shitty life together.
